Hardware:

• Extremely small design. The PCB fits in a standard SUBD23 connector case (58 x 51 x 17 mm) which connects to the external floppy disk port or the pass-thru of an external floppy drive.

• Transfer speed at the hardware level is 450,000 bits per second.

• Up to 20 hosts per net.

• Cable type: RG 58 coax with BNC connectors (same as thin ethernet).

• Maximum cable length: 100m per net, bus topology.

• No tools required for installation, no need to open the casing, just plug it in.

• Up to three floppy disk drives can still be used.

• Standard SANA-II driver supplied, works with Envoy and any other modern networking software.

• Uses DMA to transfer data between network and memory, no heavy CPU contention (in contrast to slip/parnet solutions).

• Available for all Amiga models (except CD32, unless you have an SX-1).

Software:

Amiga-Link Software

• Works with all versions of Kickstart and Workbench between 1.3 and 3.1.

• File sharing and printer sharing supported.

• Peer to peer networking philosophy (no dedicated server).

• Volumes can be mounted and unmounted anytime, no need to reboot.

• Extremely easy installation: installing the files (by installer script) and giving each host a unique name is sufficient.

• Transfer speed at dos level: about 22kByte/s on an 68000 machine, 30kB/s on a 68020 and up to 40kB/s on the high end machines. On low end machines, AmigaLink is nearly as fast as Envoy on ArcNet.

Envoy 2.0 Software

Through an arrangement with Envoy 2.0 software is also included with the Amiga-Link network adaptors.

Amiga Envoy is the standard Amiga peer-to-peer networking software that was developed by Commodore's Amiga Networking Group. Its performance, user-interface and API are consistent with the philosophy of the Amiga Operating System. Amiga Envoy provides a simple messaging interface for the easy development of reliable network applications. Included applications enable connected Amiga computers to share their hard disks, CD-ROMs, and printers transparently. Third-party applications can also provide extra functionality such as electronic mail, remote computer access, multi-user databases and multi-player games.

New features for Envoy 2.0 include support of AmigaOS 2.04 DOS packet types (including notification and record locking), support for removable media, enhanced reliability & robust recovery, localization, AmigaGuide documentation, and more.
